Who We Are
Hope in the Heat Initiative (HIH) is a refugee-founded and women-led organization established in 2025 by refugees living in Uganda.
HIH was created from the lived experience of communities facing the combined pressures of displacement, climate change, environmental degradation, and economic vulnerability. We work with refugee and host communities to advance climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, protection, education, advocacy, and locally led development.
Our work is rooted in the belief that refugees and host communities are not passive beneficiaries. They are leaders, problem-solvers, and active contributors to climate solutions and community transformation.
Why We Exist
Across Uganda’s refugee-hosting districts, communities continue to experience drought, erratic rainfall, declining soil fertility, deforestation, food insecurity, and reduced livelihood opportunities. These challenges affect families deeply, especially women, children, and young people.
Hope in the Heat Initiative exists to strengthen community-led responses to these challenges. We support practical solutions that restore dignity, improve livelihoods, protect vulnerable groups, promote refugee leadership, and build long-term resilience.
